Google Public Policy Blog: Our complete letter to the FCC regarding Google Voice for iPhone

Finally Google made public their response to the FCC on the Google Voice App Store rejection.  Seems silly that they waited so long when Apple was quick on the draw to say “See? wasn’t our fault!” by posting theirs.

With that said there are some strange discrepancies between the two companies and their answers.  For example, Google says:

Apple’s representatives informed Google that the Google Voice application was rejected because Apple believed the application duplicated the core dialer functionality of the iPhone.

Whereas Apple says:

Contrary to published reports, Apple has not rejected the Google Voice application, and continues to study it.

Where does this soap opera go from here?  Good question but it’s interesting to see.  Remember Microsoft was hit with a lawsuit by the Department of Justice for not letting IE be uninstalled, not that they didn’t allow competing software run on their OS.

You can find a copy of Google’s response hosted at the FCC website (pdf), Apple’s response is posted at the Apple news site.

The question after reading the two responses is . . . who’s lying?  Are they lying or incompetent?
