To iphone or not to iphone

01 Sep

My old Blackbery Pearl is slow, scratched, and the battery cover is being held on by electrical tape.  To top it off I’ve recently been using the hell out of it as a mini-computer which really helps me stay organized and on top of things.

Iphone

Needless to say I’m sick and tired of that dinosaur and want to upgrade to something new, which brings me to the question at hand.  What in the hell do I get?

A few options come to mind:

  • Iphone 3G – Stick with AT&T and get an 8gb 3G refurbished for $49.00
    • Pros:
      • Cheapest option for a pretty good smartphone
    • Cons:
      • It’s already old tech
      • It’s refurbished so you only get a 30 day warranty
      • No insurance available for iphones
      • Locked into an iphone data plan for 2 years
  • Iphone 3GS – Stick with AT&T and get a 16gb 3GS for $199.00
    • Pros:
      • Latest and greatest iphone
      • Good reviews
    • Cons:
      • 4x the cost of the last gen iphone
      • No insurance available for iphones
      • Locked into an iphone data plan for 2 years
  • Blackberry Curve 8900 – Stick with AT&T and a Curve for $199.99
    • Pros:
    • Cons:
      • Already had a Blackberry and although I’m sure it’s a great phone, “been there done that”
      • Lower quality Blackberry as there is no way I can afford a Bold at $299.99 (after rebate).
  • Go with another company altogether in January
    • Pros:
      • Might get cheaper service
    • Cons:
      • Stuck with this old POS until then and pretty sure I’d go with AT&T again anyway.

If you have any other suggestions for this dilemma, or if you have anything to add that I might have overlooked, let me know in the comments.

Should I buy an iPhone 3GS? – Hunch.

UPDATE: Today I gave in and purchased a 3GS.
