Résumé tweaking, take the time to do this right

07 Sep

A résumé is never complete, it’s worth the time to revisit your résumé every so often to tweak your image and convey exactly how you are best for any job you apply for.  In this economy it’s even more important to take your time and do this right.

The things pointed out in the article that I am guilty of include having an objective and the obligatory “References available upon request”.  Both of which are superfluous according to the article.

The article makes the argument that short and sweet is best.  It makes since to cull the information in your resume down to things that aren’t either obvious (Of course your objective is to land a job, why else would you be applying?), redundant (if you are not listing references, telling them you can give them to the interviewer is not necessary), or not applicable to the position applied for (who cares that you pumped gas at 16 when you are now 30 and applying for a help desk position?).

Methinks it’s time to revisit my resume and go at it with a knife to pare it down to what matters.
